Two sides that conceded costly losses in their last match will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend when Clermont welcomes Olympique Marseille to Stade Gabriel Montpied for a Ligue 1 showdown on Saturday evening. The hosts are currently in 11th place in Ligue 1, with 30 points in 22 matches, ten points behind the European Cup qualification spots, and 12 clear of the drop zone. Clermont lost their last match to Champions League contenders Monaco, which was their only loss in their last six matches, including three wins and two draws. At home, Clermont has recorded just four wins in their eleven matches, along with two draws and five losses. They’ve also struggled for goals this season, scoring 24 in 22 matches, which is the worst record outside the bottom three clubs and doesn’t inspire much confidence when coming up against a free-flowing side like Marseille.

Marseille saw their run of six league matches without defeat come to an end in their last match when they suffered a surprise 3-1 defeat to Nice, which saw them give up ground on the sides around them at the top of the table. The visitors are in second place in the league by the slenderest of margins, level on points with Lens in third and eight behind PSG in first. However, they followed that defeat up with an excellent display, knocking out PSG in the French Cup in midweek, which will give them a huge confidence boost for this match. Marseille has an excellent away record this season, conceding just one defeat in ten matches, along with seven wins and two draws. The visitors have not lost on their travels in five matches, four of which ended in wins, and they will fancy themselves to extend that record in this one.
