The Premier League resumes after the international week, with a match between Chelsea and Southampton at Stamford Bridge among the top clashes on the cards. Chelsea have had a mixed season so far and this match finds them placed seventh in the standings on seven points. Southampton on the other hand, are 11th with six points ahead of their trip to London. Heading to the international break, Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 4-0 to improve from earlier shaky results and will be looking to resume with the same form. Two penalties from Joginho and earlier goals from defenders Kurt Zouma and Ben Chilwell settled it for Chelsea in the second half after struggling to settle in. As they go to this game, Chilwell remains a doubt with injury sustained on international duty, as well as Edouard Mendy, the new keeper, who is also said to have suffered an injury during the international week. The two wins marked a massive improvement having lost two straight opening league matches as well as their Carabao Cup clash against Brentford. They fastened defensively, after conceding eight in the opening three matches of the season and have improved in attack too, having scored in each of the last three matches after failing in the opening two. Their lead scorer, Danny Ings will be hoping to add to his three goals so far and will be fresh, after spending the entire game on the bench as England faced Denmark on Wednesday. Last season, Southampton were more comfortable away than at home and they head to this game on just one loss, and four wins in their last seven league matches. In their last 10 league matches, Southampton have scored in the first half in seven, but gone on two win four. On the other hand, Chelsea have not scored a first half goal in their last three league matches but have been devastating in the second half. In their four matches so far, Chelsea have scored nine second half goals.
