Chelsea vs Southampton Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

Back from playing in the Champions League in midweek, Chelsea turn their attention to the Premier League where they host relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday. Chelsea are 10th with 31 points while Southampton languish in last place with 15 points. The hosts have managed just one win in 2023, across all competitions. In their latest game they suffered a 1-0 loss away to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League to extend their winless run to four matches. In that stretch, they have scored just one goal. The Blues haven't scored more than one in a match this year. Defensively though they have been solid and have conceded just one goal in their last four league matches. Against Southampton, they will face a team that has struggled both in attack and defence, giving them belief that they can get a much-awaited win.

Southampton beat fellow relegation candidates Everton away from home last month but they failed to build on that important win, and have now lost three on the trot. This led to Nathan Jones losing his job as manager, the second sacking at the club this season. Reports indicate that talks to take over as head coach have broken down with Jesse Marsch, recently fired by Leeds United, meaning that the Saints will go into this clash with Chelsea without a permanent man in charge. Southampton have been fortunate that the teams above them have also stagnated and haven’t been able to peel away. A win on Saturday coupled with favourable results elsewhere will see them move to within a point of safety. Beating Chelsea in the first leg at home will give them confidence going into this match as well as the fact that three of their four wins this season in the league have come on the road.
