Chelsea will have the first of their two straight home matches when they host French side Rennes in the UEFA Champions League Group E clash this Wednesday. Ahead of the match, Chelsea tops the group on four points after two matches while Rennes are bottom with one point. Hosts Chelsea registered another big win over the weekend, beating Burnley 3-0 in the Premier League and will go to this game very confident. It has been a good run for the Blues in recent matches and heading to this game, they are unbeaten in six matches, while they have kept four straight clean sheets. Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been key in this run of clean sheets and has inspired a lot of confidence in the Chelsea back line. The confidence in defence has in some way relieved pressure on midfielders and strikers and goals are also flowing; Chelsea have scored seven goals in the last two matches. Notably, their big money signings have started firing. Timo Werner has four goals in the last five matches while Hakim Ziyech has scored in each of the last two games and the team is now well oiled. After the opening 0-0 draw with Sevilla in this group, they thumped Krasnodar 4-0 away from home, and it could have been more. They have been good at home too, though they have drawn two straight matches ahead of this. In the four matches that have come after the 2-0 home defeat by Liverpool, Chelsea have not lost, and scored 13 goals, while conceding three.

Rennes on the other hand, are finding it tough on their debut season in the Champions League and it seems to be getting tough balancing domestic and European action. The French side however returned to winning ways in Ligue 1 on Saturday, beating Brest 2-1 to stop a five-match winless run. Defensively, they have struggled a bit, with no clean sheet in the last six matches, and they have no win in the last two away matches. Away from home, they have played four times this season, and have two wins, one clean sheet and one loss. Their only away loss so far this season, came in their last Champions League game, against Sevilla, and they will be hoping they can rip the form book to collect three points in London. They have conceded in both their Champions League matches so far; in the first game in this group, they led against Krasnodar, but that lasted only three minutes as Sehrou Guirassy scored from the spot but Cristian Ramirez leveled for the Russian side.
