Chelsea - Preston North End: Form Analysis
Chelsea were bundled out of the FA Cup in the third round last season. This was the first time in 25 years that they had failed to go past the first hurdle. The squad has changed much since then and the current crop will be eager to not suffer the same fate. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are in a good spell at the moment after a tough start to the season. They have won four of their last five games and are on a two-match winning run. The Blues are coming off a 3-2 victory over Luton in the Premier League. Chelsea defeated Preston 2-0 the last time they met. This was in the fourth round of the 2009/10 FA Cup, a tournament they would end up winning.
Preston North End have four times in the last five seasons stumbled out of the FA Cup in the third round. The exception was last season as they advanced to the fourth round. Ryan Lowe’s men will hope to not revert to that third-round trend so early. The Lillywhites have been poor this season. After winning six of their opening eight games of the campaign, Preston have managed to win just four of their last 19 fixtures. They have lost four times in their last five games and are on a two-game losing run. Saturday’s visitors, who are without a goal in two outings, were defeated 2-0 away to Sunderland last time out. The loss saw them drop five points behind the race for the top six in the Championship.

Chelsea & Preston North End Squad Analysis
Chelsea have been decimated by injuries this season and have no less than nine players in the treatment room. Nicholas Jackson is the 10th player who will miss out here. Jackson misses the game as he is part of the Senegal squad for the upcoming AFCON tournament. Despite this huge number of absentees, Mauricio Pochettino still has a strong squad at his disposal. Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, Mykhaylo Mudryk, and Christopher Nkunku are all available.
Ryan Lowe will have a much healthier squad at his disposal than his Chelsea counterpart. Preston only have Robbie Brady in the treatment room. The Irish winger has missed the last three matches. Top scorer Will Keane should again be tasked with leading the Lilywhites’ attack. He has scored six goals so far. Alan Browne, Milutin Osmajic, and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen are the other players who have chipped in with multiple goals this season.

Chelsea vs Preston North End - Other Interesting Predictions
Chelsea to win
Chelsea have only once in the last 25 seasons failed to advance past the third round of the FA Cup. With how dominant they have been at home recently and with Preston struggling, a home victory here is highly likely.
Both teams to score
Our third and final take is for both teams to score. Both teams don’t possess the best of defences and have found it hard to keep clean sheets. Chelsea have conceded in 10 of their last 11 games and nine of those have seen both teams score. Preston on the other hand haven’t kept a clean sheet in six outings and four of those fixtures have seen both teams score.
