Chelsea - Aston Villa: Form Analysis
Chelsea have had another mixed season but will come into this match in good spirits after beating Middlesbrough 6-1 in the semi-final of the EFL Cup in midweek and followed that with a 4-0 victory over Preston North End in the last round. That result also took them to five wins in their last six matches, with the only defeat in that time coming against Boro in the first leg of the semi-final. In league terms, The Blues are on a three-match winning run, beating Crystal Palace (2-1), Luton Town (3-2) and Fulham (1-0) in that time. They are also unbeaten in their last five home league games and have won each of their last four. With no European football at Stamford Bridge this season, Chelsea will see the domestic cups as major priorities this season and are likely to go all out for the win in this one.
Meanwhile, while Chelsea sent Boro packing from the FA Cup in midweek, Aston Villa were the ones that knocked them out of this competition in the last round. They are now unbeaten in their last three matches in all competitions, winning two and drawing the most recent 0-0 against Everton last week. While the Villans have enjoyed a solid season to this point, they have struggled to maintain a run of results in away matches. In fact, they have only won back-to-back matches on the road once in all competitions and have not won two league matches in a row as yet this term. However, they do have a good record against this opponent and come into this match having won each of the last three encounters between the sides.

Chelsea & Aston Villa Squad Analysis
Chelsea have a host of players missing for this match. Wesley Fofana (cruciate ligament tear), Reece James (hamstring), Marc Cucurella (ankle), Lesley Ugochukwu (hamstring) and Romeo Lavia (knock) have all been ruled out of action for the foreseeable future due to injury. Robert Sanchez and Christopher Nkunku are reportedly in training and could be in contention for selection. Nicolas Jackson is likely to be away for a while longer, with Senegal qualifying for the knock-out stages at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Aston Villa also have a few notable absentees, though not as many as their opponents. Tyrone Mings remains on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament tear and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Emiliano Buendia is also out with the same injury as Mings, though he is expected to return by March. Lucas Digne is a doubt for the match due to a hamstring strain while Bertrand Traore will also be heading to the AFCON last 16 with Burkina Faso.

Our Chelsea vs Aston Villa Prediction
While Aston Villa have had the better season to this point, Chelsea have found a bit of form of late and look a lot better going forward. Villa carry excellent goal threat, but they’ve not been as successful at getting results on the road as they do at home. No solid confidence in either side here, but we do fancy both to find the net. Therefore, our Chelsea vs Aston Villa prediction: Both teams to score.
