Chelsea vs Aston Villa Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Devesh Jaganath | in Premier League Predictions
Chelsea will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. The hosts had a woeful season last term, and their poor form seems to have followed them into the current campaign. The Blues are currently in 14th place with just five points after five matches. The visitors, on the other hand, have looked bright in the early stages of the season and are in seventh place with nine points.

Chelsea - Aston Villa: Form Analysis
Chelsea’s season began promisingly as they managed to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw over the opening weekend. However, since then, they have struggled to find any sort of rhythm. Before the international break, The Blues lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest and followed that up with a 0-0 draw to Bournemouth last week. With those results, Chelsea have now only registered one win in the Premier League in their last nine games either side of the summer break. That win was also the only one the hosts have managed at home in their last ten league games.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa had a very good 2022-23 season which saw them secure a Europa Conference League spot for the first time. While their first match in Europe did end in defeat in midweek, their league form has been promising so far. In their first five games, Villa were only beaten by Newcastle United and Liverpool, while they overcame Everton, Burnley, and most recently, Crystal Palace. Notably, the Villans also scored two or more goals in each of those wins. However, their away form is less impressive, with only one win in their last seven, along with two draws and four losses.

Chelsea & Aston Villa Squad Analysis
Mauricio Pochettino has something of a crisis on his hands early in the season. As far as long-term injuries go, Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Moises Caicedo are all ruled out for extended periods. Armando Broja, Marcus Bettinelli, and Benoit Badiashile are expected to be out for the next few weeks. Noni Madueke and Marc Cucurella have been flagged as doubts, while Malang Sarr is suspended.
Unai Emery also has a sizeable list of absentees. Emiliano Buendia and Tyrone Mings are out for the foreseeable future. Diego Carlos, Bertrand Traore, and Tim Iroegbunam are still a few days away from returning. Jacob Ramsey is back in training and could feature on the bench.

Our Chelsea vs Aston Villa Prediction
Despite having the home-field advantage, Chelsea’s performances this season make it difficult ot back them with any confidence. Aston Villa, on the other hand, have a short turnaround from midweek action, which is something they are still becoming accustomed to. Choosing an outright winner seems a little too risky here, but we do feel that both these sides will find the net at least once each. Therefore, our Chelsea vs Aston Villa prediction: Both teams to score.
