Chapecoense are gaining some stability on their return to the Brazilian Serie A and when they host Internacional, they’ll be eyeing a first win of the season. The newly promoted side is currently on three points from the opening five league matches while Internacional have five points. The only taste of victory this season for Chapecoense was in the Brazilian Cup, beating ABC 3-1, though the Serie D side overturned the deficit in the second leg after beating the Serie A side 3-0. That seems like long ago, with the team going into this game on the back of three straight draws. They are winless in the league so far, but there’s a feeling a win is coming, after the recent draw with fifth placed Atletico Mineiro. In the last two matches, Chapecoense have managed to come from behind to draw, and will perhaps have to focus on starting better in their matches. The three goals Chapecoense have scored in the last five matches, have all come in the second half, the period they are livelier. Meanwhile, they’ve conceded eight goals in that run of five matches, and seven have come in the first half. At home, Chapecoense have played two Serie A matches this season and they have no goals so far.

Internacional have one win in their five Serie A matches but head to this clash without a win in their last two league games. Three losses in their last five matches across all competitions should be a run to give Chapecoense hopes of an opening win. Internacional haven’t scored more than a goal in their last five matches but have taken leads in the first half in two of their last three matches. An area they’ll need to focus well on is their discipline, after seeing their players sent off on five different occasions. Pedro Henrique has seen red twice in the last five matches. Internacional finished as runners up last season but are struggling to create much this season. Understandably, one of their top forwards, Peruvian Paolo Guerrero is out with a knee injury while another forward, Carlos Palacios is away with Chile at Copa America.
