CF Montreal vs Pumas UNAM Prediction & Betting Tips - Leagues Cup

The Leagues Cup tournament returns with a facelift for 2023, expanding to a three-team group stage and knockout phase while now including all teams from the MLS and Liga MX. Our fixture today sees CF Montreal hosting Pumas UNAM for the first of two scheduled matches that each team will play. This new competition is sure to be an excellent spectacle for the fans given the rivalry between both leagues. CF Montreal will have the advantage in this opening Group M matchup with the game taking place at the Saputo Stadium in Canada. The other team in this group is DC United. 

Montreal responded with a 2-0 home win over Charlotte in their last fixture. The victory put an end to a three match losing streak which included an out-of-character pair of home defeats. Le CFM have been one of the teams with the most pronounced difference in home and away performance in the 2023 MLS season. They are averaging 2.18 points earned per home outing compared to just 0.42 points per away trip. Montreal also holds one of the biggest goal difference discrepancies with a +12 total at home and a -22 total away from home. 

Pumas come into this fixture following a positive start to the new Liga MX Apertura season. They finished the previous Clausura season in 14th-place and have largely struggled since their second-place finish in the 2020 Apertura. Pumas have averaged a finish of 13th place in the league over their last five campaigns. Despite a horrendous away record last season which saw Pumas manage only a single victory from 17 trips, they’ve experienced much better results already. Pumas won their first game by a score of 3-2 and followed that up with a 1-1 draw in their second away trip. Altogether, Pumas UNAM have an unbeaten start to the 20203 Apertura with a win and two draws from their three games.
