Celtic are still disappointed at not qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League. They were knocked out by AEK Athens but had previously recorded a win over Rosenborg winning 3-1 at home and drawing the away second leg 0-0. The two sides also met in the Champions League qualifying rounds last season with Celtic coming out 1-0 aggregate winners drawing 0-0 at home and getting a 1-0 win away. They had a few anxious moments getting past Suduva in the play-off round for this competition but after drawing the away first leg 1-1, won at home 3-0 to progress. For once Celtic aren't having it all their own way in the Scottish Premiership. They are currently second with ten points from five games but five points behind leaders Hearts who inflicted their only league defeat so far this season. They come into this game on a six-game unbeaten run and have kept a clean sheet in their last four matches. Home form has seen them unbeaten in seven games with only one league/cup defeat this year.

Rosenborg are top of the Norwegian league after 22 games, two points clear of Brann. They have won their last seven games but in European competition it's a different story with away defeats at Valur and Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers.  In the Champions League they have lost seven of their last nine away games with no wins and only won two of their last five away games in the Europa League. Celtic know all abou their opponents and can get a home win to start off their Europa League campaign.
