Celtic vs Atletico Madrid Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Daniel Ngulu | in Champions League Predictions
Celtic will welcome Atletico Madrid on Wednesday hoping to secure their first points in Group E of the Champions League. The hosts are currently bottom in the group after their first two games and already four points adrift of the second and final qualifying position. They now play Atletico Madrid home and away and desperately need some points from the two fixtures. Atletico are top of the group after earning four points from their opening two group games. They are ahead of second placed Lazio who have the same number of points with Feyenoord in third, a point behind the top two and three ahead of Celtic. This will be the first match between these two teams in 12 years. Atletico have the head-to-head advantage having won the previous two meetings.

Celtic - Atletico Madrid: Form Analysis
Celtic have lost their opening two fixtures on their return to the group stage of Europe's premier club competition. After a 2-0 loss away to Feyenoord on Match Day 1, Brendan Rodgers' men were defeated 2-1 at home by Lazio last time out. It looked as if they might earn a point against the Serie A side but concede a 95th minute goal. The Scottish giants played well against Lazio but were unfortunate to fall in the Italians' comeback. Celtic are dominating domestically again but have found it hard to replicate this form in Europe. The Hoops have won eight of their 12 matches across all competitions and arrive for this match after back-to-back victories. After the Match Day 2 loss to Lazio, the Scottish giants responded by scoring seven goals in their last two games. Celtic tightened their grip atop the Scottish Premiership table by defeating Hearts 4-1 on Sunday. Wednesday's match is a must-win for Celtic if they are to make the knockout rounds
Atletico Madrid are coming off a dominant 3-0 victory away to Celta Vigo. The win, their sixth on the bounce, kept them within striking distance of top spot in La Liga. Diego Simeone's men have lost only once this season and have won an impressive nine matches in 12 outings. That run included a 3-1 win over giants Real Madrid. This form has been aided largely by their superb attacking form. The Rojiblancos have scored at least three goals a match six times. Atletico earned their first victory in Group E on matchday two as they battled to win a five-goal thriller at home against Feyenoord. The win was the perfect response to the disappointing 1-1 draw with Lazio on Match Day 1. A win here and in the return leg on Match Day 4 could leave Atletico needing only one more win to progress into the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Celtic & Atletico Madrid Squad Analysis
Celtic have reported no injuries after Sunday's dominant victory over Hearts. Brendan Rodgers could therefore field the same starting eleven for a third successive match. Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O'Riley have scored 12 goals between them this season. The two were on target against Hearts and should again be the hosts' main threats here.
Atletico haven't been as fortunate as Celtic in terms of injuries and have had to do without a number of their stars. The latest player who could be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future is Samuel Lino. The forward was withdrawn at halftime against Celta Vigo with a knee injury. He joins a long list of casualties for the Spanish side that also includes Angel Correa, Memphis Depay, and Jose Gimenez. Atleti do however have in-form forward Antoine Griezman and Alvaro Morata to spearhead their attack. The two have scored 16 goals between them so far this season. Morata scored a brace on Match Day 2 and Griezmann came off a hat trick over the weekend.

Our Celtic vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
Celtic and Atletico arrive for this match in great attacking form. However, the results that Celtic get in the Scottish Premiership continue to be light years ahead of those achieved in the Champions League. No points from two games puts them in danger of being knocked out of European competition without even a transfer to the Europa League. The two have however not been solid defensively and have conceded a combined seven goals between them after two rounds in Group E. Our prediction for Celtic v Atletico Madrid is for both teams to score.
