Cardiff City host Sunderland in a clash between the 11th and 12th placed teams in the Championship on Good Friday. The hosts had been on a great run of form, winning four games in a row but that came to an abrupt halt in their last game before the international break when they were beaten 2-0 away to Swansea City. Despte that defeat, the Bluebirds remain five points clear of Sunderland in 12th and Watford in 13th and they are unbeaten in their last four home games, drawing one and winning the last three, including a 2-1 win over promotion-chasing Ipswich Town. Goals have been an issue for Cardiff at times this season, with just 43 scored in their 38 games, this ranks them 16th in the Championship but their home form is the 10th best in the division.

Sunderland come into this game on the back of a winless run that stretches now to seven games. They did end a six-game losing streak just before the international break, drawing 0-0 at the Stadium of Light against Queens Park Rangers, but since being in the playoff hunt in December, a stunning drop off in form has sent the Black Cats plummeting down the table. It is their away form that is the issue, with just 4 wins and 5 draws on the road from 19 games, meaning they have lost 10 times away from home including all their last four. With Tony Mowbray absent through illness, Mike Dodds has taken over as interim head coach but he has so far been unable to end the Black Cats dismal run of form of late.
