Looking to claw themselves further away from the relegation zone, Cardiff City will host Reading at their City Stadium on Friday in round 33 of the Championship. Cardiff are currently in 21st place in the standings with 32 points while Reading are 13th with 41 points. The hosts secured a huge win last time out that allowed them to climb out of the relegation zone and now sit three points above the drop zone. Sabri Lamouchi’s men put to a stop a run of 14 games without a win when they defeated Birmingham City 2-0 away from home on Tuesday. It was only their eighth league win in a season that they have lost 16 matches (which is the joint worst in the division) and drawn eight. Before the win over Birmingham, The Bluebirds had lost five successive games across all competitions, conceding 10 goals and failing to score in three of those matches. They have struggled both in attack and defence but in the former, they have managed just 24 goals all season which is the league’s worst tally.

Reading have their own struggles but are faring much better than Cardiff. The Royals have racked up 41 points from 31 matches and are just six points away from the promotion playoff places. A run of six matches without a win before they beat Rotherham 2-1 at home hindered their surge up the table. They will be keen to not drop points again in this hotly-contested playoff race. Reading have lost 14 matches (second-worst tally). They have conceded 46 times and only two other teams have let in more. Reading beat Cardiff 2-1 at home in their first meeting of the season. Reading could be without defender Baba Rahman for this one after the defender came off injured in the first half against Rotherham.
