Cameroon vs Serbia Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Daniel Ngulu | in World Cup Predictions
Cameroon and Serbia will be targeting their first points in Group G of the 2022 FIFA World Cup when they face off at the Al Janoub Stadium in Wakrah on Monday 28th November. To both teams, this is a key game as they both lost their opening matches, and go into this one bottom of the group. Serbia fell 2-0 to Brazil as Cameroon suffered a 1-0 loss to Switzerland. To either of these teams any dropped points here could turn costly, a loss would be disastrous in a group that has higher ranked Brazil and Switzerland.

Serbia had a gallant showing against tournament favorites Brazil, at least in the first half, and coming into this game, there’s little wonder as to why they are billed favorites by the bookmakers. The European nation is offered odds of 1.79 for a win while Cameroon, who had a timid showing against Switzerland, will go into this game with odds of 5.4 for a win. A draw in this game is offered at 3.9.

Cameroon - Serbia: Form Analysis
Cameroon started their campaign on a losing note, falling 1-0 to Switzerland, as Cameroonian born Breel Embolo scored the lone goal in the game. This result left them winless in the last five matches and it was their third loss in that run. Cameroon have failed to score in three of their last five matches and all of these five matches have produced under 2.5 goals. They managed just two goals in those five matches, the draws coming in matches against Jamaica and Panama. Though the African giants have conceded once in each of their last four matches, they haven’t had a great run defensively. Both teams have scored in four of their last eight matches, and they have just two clean sheets in the last 10 games. Cameroon have also managed only two wins in their last 10 matches. Their loss to Switzerland was the eighth straight suffered by a Cameroon team at the World Cup, and it was a fifth time in eight that Cameroon failed to score at a FIFA World Cup. In their last 17 World Cup matches, Cameroon have only managed one win, which came against Saudi Arabia in 2002. In competitive action, Cameroon have five wins in their last 10 matches, and they have managed just three clean sheets in the process. Serbia’s only meeting with Cameroon before this was back in 2010, where they beat Cameroon 4-3. Cameroon’s talisman, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was in that team and scored one of the goals. Serbia will be hoping to repeat that but with a greater focus on the defensive side. They are coming from a brave but fruitless showing against Brazil where they lost 2-0 in what was their first defeat in seven matches. They have three wins in the last four matches and will want to take inspiration from their opening half against the Brazilians. Serbia have failed to score in one of their last seven matches and have three clean sheets in the last 10. Three times in their last seven matches they’ve conceded more than a goal, while they’ve scored two or more in five of the last seven and both teams have scored in three of their last five matches. In competitive action, Serbia have managed just three clean sheets in the last 10. They will hope to better their World Cup record, having lost in eight of the last 10.

Cameroon & Serbia Squad Analysis
Cameroon are in the trickiest position in this group, given they play the favorites Brazil in the last group game. It means they have to strike a good balance and hope that they don’t lose any of their dependable players before that game. Collins Fai is on a yellow card going into this game and Rigobert Song will be hoping he can avoid another here, so he can play against Brazil. In the opening game, Song was forced to substitute all his forward men in the hope of getting a goal but after an expected goal ratio of less than 1, it seems this will call for more than just personnel changes. Choupo-Moting was only visible in the opening exchanges but disappeared afterwards, failing to inspire the Indomitable Lions, and neither did Vincent Aboubakar when he was sent on, which means Choupo Moting may still retain his starting berth. Serbia had bookings for Starhinja Pavlovic, Nemanja Gudelj and Sasa Lukic in the first game. All those being starters, gives coach Dragan Stojkovic a headache. It will not help the coach that Aleksandar Mitrovic came to the competition on the back of struggles with injury from his club, Fulham, and he couldn’t do much before being withdrawn in the final 10 minutes. Filip Kostic was reported to have a muscular injury ahead of the tournament and the fact that he was on the bench for the entire game against Brazil means the Juventus man may still not be 100% fit. He remains a doubt for this game too.

Our Cameroon vs Serbia Prediction
Serbia have a stronger run than Cameroon and coming into this game, they will feel this is a more manageable opponent than Brazil. They have the better quality in their playing unit and the fact that Cameroon cannot afford to sit back and defend will give Serbia an edge if their rich attacking talent can get its rhythm. While both teams have struggled to keep clean sheets, this is the kind of game where the best attack stands out and we expect that to be Serbia’s, so we will back them to win.
