Cagliari moved up to fourth in Serie A on Monday when beating 17th placed Sampdoria 4-3. Just two days later they meet again, this time in the fourth round of the Italian Cup. Monday's game was a real thriller with the home side trailing 2-0 and 3-1 before completing a great comeback. Cagliari have scored 11 goals in their last three games but also conceded seven. Home form has seen them win their last four league games with 14 goals scored and seven conceded. They reached this round by beating Chievo 2-1 at home and the winners of this tie will take on Napoli in the last sixteen. The last three years have seen Cagliari win four of their six home games.

Sampdoria could have done with a win on Monday as the defeat left them just a place and two points above the relegation zone. Only two teams in Serie A have conceded more goals than them this season. They have been struggling for form on their travels this season. Seven away league games have produced six defeats, the only win coming at SPAL who are in the bottom three. They did get an away win in the third round of the Italian Cup winning 3-1 at Serie B side Crotone but only after going a goal down after eight minutes. That win ended a run of eight away games in the Italian Cup without a win, a run going back ten years. Both teams are likely to make several changes for this game. The safest bet is to go for both teams to score.
