Real Madrid will look to take another step toward securing the runners-up spot when they travel to Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla to take on Cadiz in La Liga on Saturday evening. The hosts are in second place in their league with 59 points, 13 points behind Barcelona at the top. Los Blancos saw their advantage over Athletico in third place cut to just two points in their last match when they lost 3-2 to Villareal, who are the first side outside the Champions League qualification spots. Madrid have found it difficult to emulate their cup form in the league in recent times with a record of two wins, two draws, and two losses in their last six league matches. Their away record is also below the level they would have envisaged at the start of the season, with nine wins, one draw, and four losses in 14 league matches on the road this season. Madrid did win the reverse fixture 2-1 back in November and will see this as a must-win match with the possibility of them slipping out of the second spot if they lost and Athletico win their fixture the next day. 

Meanwhile, Cadiz needs a few results to go their way in the final 10 matches of the season to help them pull away from the relegation zone. The visitors are currently in 14th place in a congested bottom half of the table, with 31 points after 28 matches, just four points above Valencia, who are the first side in the drop zone. Cadiz picked up a valuable win in their last match, 2-0 over Real Betis, which was their second win in their last six matches, including three draws and a loss. Their home record over the course of this season has been average at best, with four wins, six draws, and four losses in 14 matches at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla, though they are winless in their last two matches. Cadiz have failed to win any of their last four matches against this opponent, outscored 6-2 in that time, and will know that they will need to pull off one of the upsets of the week to take something away from this one.
