It's the final set of games in Group D of the Copa Libertadores tournament and both of these sides have already qualified for the knock-out stages. River Plate top the group by two points from their opponents and are currently seeded fifth for the knock-out stages of this tournament. They have won three and drawn two of their five games and drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture with Flamengo twice coming from behind and equalising with just four minutes of normal time to go. Home form has seen River Plate draw with Santa Fe 0-0 and beat Emelec 2-1. They are currently eighth in the Argentina Supaliga with eight home wins and have gone 11 home league and cup games without defeat last losing in November of last year. In the Copa Libertadores, they have one defeat in their last 14.

Flamengo come into this game knowing only a win will win them the group and get them into the top eight seeds. They have already qualified for the knock-out stages as they lead third-placed Santa Fe by five points going into this final game. The Brazilian side are also undefeated in this group but have drawn three of their five matches. Away from home they won 2-1 at Emelec but were held to a goalless draw by Santa Fe. The home win over Emelec in this group is their only win in the last four games and in this tournament have only won two of their last 12 away games, both at Emelec who they must wish they could play every week. River Plate have the home form to get a win here and clinch top spot in the group and a healthy seeding in the last sixteen.
