Burnley vs Wigan Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship
by Devesh Jaganath | in Championship Predictions
Burnley will look to take a step closer to securing their promotion to the Premier League when they welcome Wigan Athletic to Turf Moor for a classic top-versus-bottom encounter in the Championship. The hosts have looked a cut above the rest for most of the season and seem destined to lift the title at the end of the season. However, it’s the complete opposite for Wigan Athletic, who are running out of time, with just 11 matches left in the season to try and get out of the dreaded relegation zone.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, Burnley is the overwhelming favourites to win this match on most bookmakers’ odds, averaging a 1.4 return on your wager. The draw is currently returning 5.5, while a win for the visitors is the outside option priced up at 7.5 and better. The hosts will likely control possession and create lots of chances for themselves which could result in a few goals and makes the handicap market look quite attractive at odds of 2.1 for Burnley -1. Burnley has made Turf Moor something of a fortress this season, shutting out their opposition five times in their last eight home matches. Odds of 2.0 and better are available for Burnley to win and both teams to score (NO), which definitely looks worth a punt.

Burnley & Wigan Squad Analysis
Burnley still has several absentees, but luckily for Vincent Kompany, none of them are new. Josh Brownhill’s foot injury will keep him out for at least another month, along with Ian Maatsen, who is yet to feature this season. Churlinov, Manuel, and Harwood-Bellis will all miss this one as they continue to recover from injuries, while Jay Rodriguez could return to the Burnley bench, but does remain a major doubt. Wigan also has no new injury concerns or suspensions to contend with. Martin Kelly and Jason Kerr will remain on the sidelines for the Latics, with both players expected to miss the rest of the campaign with injuries.

Our Burnley vs Wigan Prediction
It’s difficult to make much of a case for the visitors when looking at the stats. Burnley’s home record is incredible, and they’ve looked like a Premier League side the entire season. They will be expecting nothing less than three points from this one, and we expect them to get there fairly easily. Our Burnley v Wigan Athletic prediction is a win for the hosts.
