The bottom two sides are set to face off as the Premier League resumes following the short winter break. Burnley, at the foot of the league standings, with 12 points, plays host to 19th placed Watford who have 14 points going into this game. Burnley drew 0-0 with Arsenal in a brave showing in their last encounter and will hope they can build on it against a fellow struggling side. In their last nine matches, Burnley haven’t managed a win, and they’ve only banked two points from a possible 15 in the last five matches. They haven’t scored more than a goal in their last six league matches, and in four of them, they failed to score completely. They have a slightly better run at home though, unbeaten in the last four league matches, with one win and three draws. The arrival of Dutch international Wout Weghorst should lift spirits at the team after Chris Wood’s departure, and he will be expected to start here.

Watford will be led by a third different manager this season, when they head to this game. Their 3-0 loss to Norwich City in the last game saw league winning coach Claudio Ranieri sacked and Roy Hodgson handed the reins. The experienced manager’s first role will be to try and haul Watford off the relegation zone. Watford are two points below the safe zone and Hodgson will definitely look at this as achievable while he also seeks to make a good first impression. His team hasn’t managed a win in the last nine matches, losing eight and has been very porous at the back. Watford have no clean sheet in their last 10 matches, and in seven of those they have conceded two or more goals. They’ve failed to score in two of the last four matches and in the last eight, they haven’t managed more than a goal. Watford last won a game in November, beating Manchester United 4-1. In their last five away matches, Watford have four losses.
