Both Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur will be eyeing a return to winning ways when they face off at Turf Moor in the League Cup on Wednesday. Hosts Burnley are on four games unbeaten and Spurs have lost the last two. Burnley are having a tough season so far but go into this game on only one loss in the last five, against Manchester City. In their last game, they drew 2-2 with Southampton, as for the second time in four, they dropped points from a winning position. In two of their last three matches they’ve failed to score, and have conceded twice in three of their last four matches. However, they’ve managed to score two or more in three of the five matches. The hosts have one clean sheet in five matches; in the last round, they beat Rochdale 4-1 and here they have a tougher challenge. At home, they have one win in five and they’ve also managed just one win in the last five matches against Spurs.

Tottenham reached the League Cup final last season and will be hoping to go one better this time. They are coming from a 1-0 loss to West Ham United, the second straight game they’ve failed to score in. That defeat, in the league, also means they’ve now gone 10 matches without a clean sheet. In six of the said 10 matches, Spurs have conceded two or more goals. They go into their third straight away game and after losing two they’ll want to do well here, as tougher fixtures come right after this. Away from home, they have two wins in nine games this season. However, they carry to this game a good run against Burnley, being unbeaten in the last four meetings. Tottenham have won three of those four meetings, the most recent a 4-0 thrashing of their hosts.
