Burnley - Sunderland: Form Analysis
Promotion chasing Burnley are looking to recover from the heavy loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup just before the international break. Vincent Kompany’s side was outsmarted by the Premier League leaders, losing 6-0 in the game right before the international break. Onto this game and their 38th in the Championship, Burnley need just 12 points from the eight remaining games. That will secure not only promotion but also the Championship title. The crucial nature of this game is such that they will be playing two top six sides in the two matches that come right after this, so this to some extent, is a must-win game. With a 17-game unbeaten run in the Championship, Burnley have the upper hand coming here and they’ve been scoring a lot of goals as well. In the last four matches they’ve failed to score once, and in three, they’ve scored three or more. In the last 13 league matches at home, Burnley have won 12 and drawn once.
Sunderland aren’t enjoying a good run. In their last seven matches, they have just one win. Their last game before the international break ended 1-1 with Luton Town, and they have four losses in the last six matches. In their earlier meeting with Burnley this season, Sunderland suffered a 4-2 loss after falling apart in the second half, having led 2-0 in the first. Three times in their last five matches, Sunderland have conceded two or more goals. They have also managed just one clean sheet in seven matches while both sides have scored in seven of their last 10 matches. Away from home in the Championship, they have lost twice in the last three matches, but they come into this game having beaten Norwich 1-0 in their last away match.
