Burnley finished 15th in the Premier League last season eight places lower than in the 2017/18 season. Their season started terribly with a run of just one point from their first five games. That just happened to be an opening day goalless draw away to Southampton. Their pre-season had been a busy one with the Europa League getting in the way. Eventually Burnley turned things around to finish 15th, five points clear of the relegation zone. They haven't been too busy in the summer transfer window but have made one significant signing. Jay Rodriguez, who scored over 20 league goals for West Brom in the Championship last season, has returned to Turf Moor.

Southampton ended last season in 16th place, one higher than in the 2017/18 season. They struggled throughout the season and were only five points above the bottom three. They only won four away league games last season, losing 11. Goals were a bit in short supply with just 18 scored on their travels. The summer has seen them sign former Burnley player Danny Ings from Liverpool (he was on loan with them last season) and high-scoring Che Adams from Birmingham City. Moussa Djenpro has been signed from Standard Liege and could prove to be a useful winger. Both of these clubs are likely to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League. The tip here is for Burnley to get a home win.
