Burnley have a huge home game against Newcastle United in the early kickoff on Sunday. Both sides seek to make one big step towards survival in the Premier League. Burnley have 33 points, in 15th place and Newcastle United are placed 17th with 29 points. The hosts blew a 2-0 lead in their last game, against Southampton and went on to lose 3-2, leaving them just seven points above the relegation zone. Only Sheffield have scored lesser than Burnley in the league this season but they’ve conceded the second-least (40) in the bottom half. Their low scoring run is directly linked with the few wins they’ve registered in the season; Burnley go to this game with two wins in the last 11 league matches and have two clean sheets in the last 12 league matches. At home, they’re winless in six league games, having drawn each of the last five, and have managed just one clean sheet in eight. Four wins in 15 home league matches gives them a 27% winning rate at home and they’ve registered 18 points from a possible 45 in their home matches. Robbie Brady, Ashley Barnes, Erik Pieters and Kevin Long are all injured and out of the game but Phil Bardsley should return after missing the Southampton clash on compassionate grounds.

Newcastle United staged a great comeback in their last game to draw 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur. That result saw them open a three-point buffer from the relegation zone but they head to this game winless in seven league matches. Theirs is a desperate push to widen the gap down there but with a number of key players set to return from injury, there’s some positivity in the camp. Four draws in the last five matches can be termed positive in their situation. In their last 15 league matches the Magpies have managed just two clean sheets and lost nine. They’ve failed to score in three of the last 10 matches but can be in a better place if they build on the performance against Tottenham. However, in their last four away league matches, Newcastle have suffered three defeats. Their away performances in the league haven’t been the strongest, the team winning just three of 15, a 20% winning rate. From a possible 45 points, they’ve secured just 12. The good news at the team is that Callum Wilson, who has been out injured since February could make a return in this game. Despite being out for two months, Wilson is still the club’s leading scorer with 10 goals. Alain Saint-Maximin returned from a groin injury in the Tottenham game and should add more attacking options here as he is expected to start. Isaac Hayden and Fabian Schar are out of the game.
