Burnley - Manchester City: Form Analysis
Burnley are back in the English top flight after spending last season in the English Championship. Vincent Kompany’s men made an immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation at the end of the 2021/22 season. They dominated in the second tier and have returned as champions after managing an impressive 101 points. Burnley haven’t defeated City since a 1-0 success back in 2015. The Clarets will have this as extra motivation to try and secure a win here. With the form they have been on in the lead-up to this match, they will be confident of this. Burnley have won six of their last eight matches with three of those coming in pre-season. One of those was an impressive 2-0 success over Benfica in Portugal. In their last match, however, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Betis.
Manchester City have won the last 11 encounters with Burnley in all competitions. This should have them confident of starting off the defence of their Premier League title with a win. City won last season’s EPL title for the third time in a row. This was part of a dominant campaign for Josep Guardiola’s men who also won the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. They are again the team to beat. The Cityzens arrive for this match however having lost their last two matches. They closed out their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 loss to Atletico Madrid. This was followed up by a shootout loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield after the match had ended 1-1 in regulation time. Before this dip in form, City had won four in a row with two of those being the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals.

Burnley & Manchester City Squad Analysis
Burnley are being coached by former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany. Kompany took over the team last season and was at the helm as they powered their way back to the EPL. The club has made nine signings to help boost the team with former Southampton winger Nathan Redmond one of them. Goalkeeper James Trafford is another new signing. The 20-year-old comes in from Manchester City. He was part of the England U21 squad that lifted the U21 Euro Championship last month. Burnley lost last season’s top scorer in the league Nathan Tella who sealed a move to Southampton. But still have second and third top scorers Benson Manuel Hedilazio and Jay Rodriguez in their ranks.
Manchester City have also seen a number of players, crucial to their success last season leave the club. Captain Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez have moved for pastures new in Spain and Saudi Arabia respectively. Three players have been brought in thus far with Matteo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol the high-profile arrivals. Kovacic, brought in from Chelsea has already played for the club during pre-season and should be expected to start here. Gvardiol sealed his move from RB Leipzig less than a week ago and this fixture could have come too soon for him. Last season’s top scorer Erling Haaland is expected to lead the line here. He scored a record-setting 36 goals in the league last season. The striker scored twice in pre-season and will be rearing to go here. Kevin de Bryune started on the bench in the Community Shield as he continues to get back to full fitness. He could come in from the start here with Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva expected to keep their places in attack.
