Burnley did well in their last game to hold Manchester United and will be on to an even tougher game when they host Liverpool in their next league match. A 1-1 draw with Manchester United wasn’t enough to lift Burnley off the foot of the Premier League standings. They go to this game having managed just 14 points from their 20 matches and Liverpool are second with 51 points. Burnley’s draw with United was their third straight, and while manager Sean Dyche hailed it, he was quick to note that they have to do better. The team has managed just one win all season and the departure of New Zealand forward Chris Wood said all on how much he trusts in the Burnley project. The club did bring in Dutch international Wout Weghorst but he will need some time to settle in the Premier League. Burnley’s last win in the league, actually their only one, came in October, a 3-1 victory over Brentford. They’ve so far gone winless in 11, but only losing four times in the 11 matches. They’ve failed to score in five of their last 10 matches and when they’ve scored, only one of the 10 games has seen more than a goal.

Liverpool on the other hand, have been on a steady rise and will feel really capable of challenging for the league title, being nine points behind league leaders Manchester City, and with a game in hand. The Reds are coming from yet another win, a 2-0 victory over Leicester City, courtesy of a Diogo Jota brace. Jota has now scored five goals in the last four matches and is really on fire. This was the eighth unbeaten outing for Liverpool, and they head to this game having won each of their last five. In eight of their last 10 matches, Liverpool have scored two or more goals and they have three clean sheets in their last five matches. Indeed, they take to this game a very strong run and having lost just once in the last six meetings with Burnley gives them an edge. In the last meeting with Burnley, Jota was on the mark as Liverpool won 2-0, and he may still get the nod here, with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane expected to play lesser roles.
