Burkina Faso take on Tunisia in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, after sailing through the preliminaries as the best of Group A ahead of Cameroon, Gabon and Guinea Bissau. However, they progressed not by the quality of their game, but by the sheer fact that their opponents in the group were not as tough as those in other pools. Like Cameroon, the Burkinabe had one win and two draws, advancing with a five point total. Tunisia were in a much-more competitive group that also had Senegal and Algeria. To get to the knock out stage, they had to overcome a first-match stutter, that saw them fall 2-0 to eventual group winners Senegal. The Carthage Eagles later recovered to beat Algeria 2-1 and Zimbabwe 4-2. In the quarterfinals, both teams will have to improve the quality of their game because any mistakes will be costly. However, the two coaches, Paulo Duarte of Burkina Faso and Henryk Kasperczack of Tunisia, have some of the best squads in the tournament, comprising Europe’s top players. It will, therefore, be interesting to see the tactical changes that they will implement as they each seek a semifinal berth.
