Burkina Faso and Tunisia meet at the Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adjia in this AFCON quarter final match. Burkina Faso had a poor start to the tournament and lost their first match to host Cameroon and this is their only loss in the last 12 matches. They bounced back from that defeat with a 1-0 win over Cape Verde. Their last group match was a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia which was good enough for second place in the group. They had a rollercoaster of an encounter against Gabon in their last match. Their star player Bertrand Traore went from zero to hero as he missed a penalty and then later scored for his country. Burkina Faso conceded a goal in injury time and eventually won 7-6 in a penalty shootout. They have not lost in their four previous encounters with Tunisia, winning two and drawing two.

Tunisia can count themselves lucky to have progressed from the group stage as they lost two of their three group matches. It was a 4-0 win over Mauritania that boosted them into one of the best third placed teams. They entered their round of 16 tie against Nigeria as overwhelming underdogs as the Nigerians were the only team in the group stages that won all three games. They shocked everybody by dumping the Super Eagles out with a 1-0 victory. They were assisted by the Nigerians having a player sent off but it was a victory built on resolute defence. The Tunisians play to their strength which is their defence and if they get an early goal they could surprise Burkina Faso.
