Burkina Faso booked their place at the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a draw with Uganda in Kampala in their last match. As they go to their final Group B match against South Sudan, the match means little for the two nations. Burkina Faso tops the group with nine points and South Sudan are bottom with three points. The improvement in defence has been noticeable in Burkina Faso’s recent matches but it is like this has sacrificed their attack. They have three clean sheets in the last five matches ahead of this but failed to score in four of their last five matches. The West Africans have one loss and five wins in their last 11 matches and at home, they are unbeaten in six matches, winning three and keeping four clean sheets. In AFCON qualification matches at home, Burkina Faso are unbeaten in 14 matches, winning 11 and keeping seven clean sheets. They’ve scored two or more goals in nine of the 14.

South Sudan aren’t a household name in African football and whichever way this goes, the big achievement they will lift up there is their win over Uganda earlier in the qualifiers. They head here with two straight losses, against Kenya in a friendly and Malawi in their last AFCON qualification match. South Sudan have failed to score in five of their last six matches; their only goal having come through a penalty. That goal was against Uganda, in a game that provided their only win in eight matches ahead of this one. Away from home in AFCON qualifiers, they’ve lost 10 of the last 11 matches, have no goal in seven of eight and have conceded 11 goals in six.
