Brighton vs Marseille Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League
by Steve Ashfield | in Europa League Predictions
Both Brighton and Hove Albion and Marseille have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League. Now it's the final fixture of Group B and Brighton need a home win over leaders Marseille to win the group. Doing so is so important as the group winners go into the last 16 rather than the knockout play-off round. The play-off round is rather treacherous territority as opponents will be drawn from the sides who finished third in their Champions League group and that includes Benfica, Milan, Young Boys and Feyenoord. Brighton come into this game just a point behind their Ligue 1 opponents. Only a win will see them be group leaders and move into the last 16 in their first ever European campaign. Marseille drew 2-2 at home with Brighton but will be disappointed with that result as they led that game 2-0 in the first half. Another drawat the Amex Stadium won't be so disappointing as it will see them win the group.

Brighton - Marseille: Form Analysis
It's been an exciting first European campaign for the Seagulls. It didn't start well with a 3-2 home loss to AEK though they did pull themselves level before conceding a late goal. Then they went 2-0 down in the reverse fixture at Marseille. They managed to come home from France with a 2-2 draw and then had two wins over Ajax and amazingly for Brighton they won both games without conceding a goal.. Their last game saw them clinch qualification with a 1-0 away win at AEK. Brighton are eighth in the Premier League and not been the most consistent of teams in England's top flight in recent months apart from both teams scoring in each game. That statistic has come up in their last 20 Premier League game and twice in this competition. Last weekend saw them held to a 1-1 draw at home by struggling Burnley.and that was their third draw in the last four games at the Amex. They are unbeaten in their last seven home games in all competitons since that loss to AEK in September. Of their last 14 home fixtures, only the 2-0 win over Ajax hasn't seen both teams get on the scoresheet.
Marseille have 11 points from their five group games, one more than their opponents. The Olympians are the top scorers in the group with 14 goals. However, nine goals have been conceded by them and only Ajax have let in more. It's been an up and down campaign though and in their opening fixture needed to come 2-0 and 3-2 down at Ajax to get a point. The 2-2 draw with Brighton followed and two penalties were needed to beat AEK 3-1 at home. The reverse fixture with the Greeks was won 2-0 and then they needed a 93rd minute goal to beat Ajax 4-3 at home and clinch qualification. They are currently sixth in Ligue 1 and only four points behind the final Champions League place. The Phocaeans are in good form at present and are chasing a fifth successive victory. Their most recent win was a 4-2 success at Lorient. Both teams have scored in three of their last five games and in four of their games in this group.

Brighton & Marseille Squad Analysis
Ansu Fati has scored in two of Brighton's last three games in this group. He's injured at present and won't be playing on Thursday. Joao Pedro is fit though and will hope to add to the five goals he's netted in this group, four from the penalty spot. With Arsenal away at the weekend, Brighton might be expected to rest some players for this game. However, that might not be the case as they will really want to win this game and ease their New year fixture list. Joel Veltman is expected to make his return to the side after missing the weekend home game against Burnley. Also expected to start this game are Lewis Dunk, Billy Gilmour and Jan Paul van Hecke. Marseille will be without Valentin Rongier and Joaquin Correa with Geoffrey Kondogbia doubtful. Jonathan Clauss was sent off against Lorient in Ligue 1 last weekend but he's not suspended for this fixture.
