Sixth placed Brighton and Hove Albion look to boost their hopes of playing in Europe next season. Monday sees them host Everton who are 19th in the Premier League and in serious danger of being relegated. Brighton moved up to sixth afer the last-gasp win over Manchester United on Thursday evening. With games in hand, a first ever European campaign is looking likely. It was a late 99th-minute penalty that gave Brighton a 1-0 win over Manchester United making it four wins out of their last six as their bid to qualify for Europe continues. The closest they've been to Europe in the past is staging the Eurovision Song Contest. Sixth place is currenty enough to get into Europe although whether it's Europa League or the Europa Conference League is going to be dependent on Manchester United's FA Cup final result and their own top-four finish. To negate all this, Brighton can directly qualify to the Europa Leauge by pipping Liverpool to fifth place, as they have two games in hand over them. They have had a great season though and continue to be a hard team to beat.  Brighton have been brilliant at home winning four of their last five Premier League matches at this venue, while drawing the other. With only a 1-0 loss to Fulham being their only reverse in home league matches in 2023, Brighton are well-placed to continue that sequence.

Everton start this set of fixtures a point from safety with just four matches remaining. The situation could get worse by the time this game starts if Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Leicester City do well in their weekend fixtures. Relegation from the Premier League looks like being three from the current bottom five and Everton really could have done with holding onto their lead at Leicester last Monday. Form is not good though with a seven-game winless run in the Premier League with four draws and three defeats. The problem is with their scoring as Everton’s tally of 27 is the lowest in the league this season. The problems for Everton mount on the road with no wins in 15 away matches in all competitions. They have drawn six and lost nine matches during this sequence.
