Brighton vs Ajax Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League
by Devesh Jaganath | in Europa League Predictions
Gameweek three in Group B of the Europa League will see Brighton & Hove Albion play host to Ajax on Thursday evening. Brighton and Hove Albion come into this game bottom of the group with just one point from their two games. They host Ajax who are in third place, a point above their opponents. Brighton are only a point behind second placed Marseille but three adrift of leaders AEK Athens. Now the Seagulls play Ajax home and away in their next two games. A couple of good results should see them in with a good chance of qualification either for the Europa League knockout stages or a transfer to the Europa Conference League. Neither side are in good form at present and this week saw Ajax part company with their coach, will that bring better results? Earlier in the day Marseille host AEK so it'll be interesting to see how that changes the group table ahead of this match.

Brighton - Ajax: Form Analysis
Brighton come into this match off the back of a 2-1 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City following the international break. That result saw their recent winless record extend to five matches in all competitions with three losses and two draws. They are now in seventh place in the Premier League with 16 points, three behind the top five sides. However, they have only earned one point from their last three league games. It's defending which is their main problem at present. Five goals have been conceded in their two group games so far. Their first ever European campaign began with a 3-2 home loss to AEK Athens. They then had to battle back from 2-0 down to get a 2-2 draw in Marseille. Brighton have conceded 12 goals in their last four matches. Home form has seen them only lose to AEK in their last four fixtures at the Amex. Their last match saw them draw 2-2 with Liverpool. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in all six of their home matches this season.
Meanwhile, Ajax are in a bad way this season. They currently find themselves in the relegation zone in the Eredivisie, marking their worst start to a league season in history. Following a 4-3 loss to Utrecht over the weekend, Maurice Steijn left his role as manager of the club after just four months in charge. De Joden have now failed to win any of their last eight matches in all competitions, including five losses and three draws. They also conceded two or more goals in five of those matches. Ajax's only wins this season came over Heracles and a 4-1 win over Ludogrets in this competition back in August. The visitors have also failed to win any of their last four away matches, conceding eight and scoring five in that time. It's a tough time for Ajax at the moment, but a positive result will do wonders for their confidence. So far in this group, Ajax have drawn 3-3 at home with Marseille but led three times in that game. That was followed by a 1-1 draw at AEK, again giving away a lead. Five of their last six games have seen over 2.5 goals scored in them.

Brighton & Ajax Squad Analysis
Roberto De Zerbi has a few notable absentees at the moment, with the defensive duo of Tariq Lamptey and Pervis Estupinan both out for at least another month due to injury. Jakub Moder has not featured as yet this season with an ACL issue and is only expected to return to training in November. Julio Enciso is a long-term absentee with a knee injury and should remain sidelined until the New Year. They are also going to be without Solly March and Danny Welbeck for a while as the injury crisis mounts.
Ajax will not only be without a permanent manager for this match but also have a few notable injuries absent. Geronimo Rulli (shoulder) and Ahmetcan Kaplan (knee) are the long-term absentees. Sivert Mannsverk (knee), Steven Berghuis (calf), and Amourricho van Axel Dongen have been flagged as doubtful but could feature if they pass late fitness tests.

Our Brighton vs Ajax Prediction
What we have here are two sides that have been scoring relatively freely of late but have struggled to keep goals out the other end. Neither of their records are particularly impressive in recent weeks, especially that of Ajax who find themselves in the Eredivisie relegation zone. Brighton have injury problems mounting up but need to get a win here to keep their qualification hopes alive. We feel that we could see a handful of goals scored in this one. Our Brighton & Hove Albion vs Ajax prediction: Over 2.5 goals.
