Brighton vs AEK Athens Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League
by Steve Ashfield | in Europa League Predictions
It's one of the biggest days in the history of Brighton and Hove Albion. Perhaps not quite as big as when they played in the FA Cup final but close. The English Premier League side make their debut in European competition with a home game against AEK Athens. This is a Group B match in the Europa League with the other two clubs being Marseille and Ajax. The Seagulls qualified by finishing sixth in the Premier League last season. Such is the delight at playing at this level for the first time, the city of Brighton has been celebrating all week. The famous Pavilon was lit up in blue and white and the local council have given the club the freedom of the city. After all those tributes they dare not lose to AEK Athens on Thursday evening. They have sold some key players during the summer and made a fair profit too. From the way they have started the new season you wouldn't have noticed what has happened. After their 3-1 away win at Manchester United on Saturday, Brighton are fifth in the Premier League and only a point adrift of the top four. AEK Athens are sixth in the Greek Super League and began this season in the Champions League. The Greek side were unable to get through to the group stages of that competition so here they are in the Europa League and in a tough group too. They face a tough task travelling home from the south coast of England with any points.

Brighton - AEK Athens: Form Analysis
Brighton and Hove Albion have only lost one of their six Premier League games this season. That was a 3-1 home loss to West Ham United but since that game they have had impressive wins at home to Newcastle United and away at Manchester United, both by a 3-1 scoreline. The goals have certainly been flowing for The Seagulls with 15 being scored in the Premier League and that's two more than any other side in the top flight. Only in that defeat to West Ham have they failed to score three goals in a game. Their style of play may well come as a bit of a shock to the traveling AEK Athens team. Brighton have scored eight goals in their three home fixtures this season. Only two of their last 12 home matches have been lost and that looks like becoming 13 soon.
.One of their nicknames is the Double-Headed Eagle, but how will they cope with the Seagulls on Thursday? AEK Athens began this season playing in the Champions League. They beat Dinamo Zagreb 4-3 in the third round and that took them into a play-off tie against Royal Antwerp. The Yellow-Blacks lost the away first leg 1-0 and then went down 2-1 at home. That took them into the Europa League for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Only three of their last 12 matches in European competition have ended in victory. This season they've had a win, one draw and two defeats. Away form has seen them win at Zagreb this season but four of their last six on the road have been lost. AEK are sixth in the Greek Super League with five points from their three games. Current form is not good though and only one of their last six fixtures has been won.

Brighton & AEK Athens Squad Analysis
Brighton and Hove Albion haven't reported any fresh injury problems since the weekend game at Old Trafford. They are likely to make some team changes for this game with a Premier League match against Bournemouth at the weekend. Evan Ferguson (who recently scored a hat-trick against Newcastle) may return to the side with Joao Pedro also hoping to win the game. AEK have a fit squad for this Europa League game. Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati is expected to have his first start for the club.
AEK Athens come into this game with a few selection problems. They will be missing Rodolfo Pizarro, Pablo Fernandes and Mijat Gacinovic. There are concerns too over defender Domagoj Vida who was injured in the recent game against Olympiacos. If unable to play on Thursday his replacement could be Gerasimos Mitoglour. Petros Mantalos missed that game due to suspension. With that over now the question is whether he will return to the starting line-up.
