Brest and Rennes have one target in the eighth week of the French Ligue 1; to rise from the bottom half. The two sides face off on Saturday, separated by two points. Read on for our prediction of the match, as Les Pirates play host to Les Rouges et Noirs.

Playing at home will give Brest a slight advantage here. After losing three of their opening four matches, Brest have hit a purple patch, winning four of their last five games.

They must have felt disappointed at the timing of the international break, which came as they had just beaten Le Havre 2-0. That marked the team’s third clean sheet in four matches.

In their last four home matches, Brest bagged straight wins and conceded just once.

This season Rennes have no continental assignments and for now all their attention is on Ligue 1. With their hosts having to juggle domestic and Champions League activity, Rennes will hope to take advantage.

They aren’t on a good run though, and will hope to have reorganized during the international break. Understandably, the visitors had a tough run of matches before the break, facing Lens, PSG and Monaco back-to-back.

Julien Stephan’s men won none of the three matches. The 2-1 home loss to Monaco was their fourth defeat in the seven league games played so far.

Last season, their dominance in this fixture was broken as Brest claimed four points across the two league games. The most recent of them ended in Rennes losing 5-4 at home.
