Brentford vs Bournemouth Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship
by Daniel Ngulu | in Championship Predictions
Bournemouth have a slim advantage from the opening leg of their Championship promotion playoff semi final against Brentford, which they will hope to protect heading to the return leg. With Brentford hosting this leg, they’ll be hoping to overturn their away loss. Arnaut Groeneveld scored the only goal separating these sides and Brentford, starting on a back foot, will be seeking a repeat of last season, when they overturned a 1-0 loss to Swansea to win 3-1 and advance to the final. However, they fell 2-1 to Fulham in the final at Wembley. Brentford are the unluckiest side when it comes to the playoffs system; they’ve never won promotion through it and this is the 10th attempt. They finished the regular season unbeaten in 12 matches and among the teams they beat in the six wins therein was Bournemouth. The playoffs have however proven over years that recent form doesn’t matter much but after losing away from home, they will be hoping for home comforts. In the last eight matches at home, they are unbeaten and have kept five clean sheets. They haven’t conceded more than one goal in the eight matches.
Bournemouth had a torrid ending to the season, finishing with three straight losses, but were fast starters in the playoffs, securing this slim lead they take to Brentford. In the regular season, they lost both matches against Brentford and their loss to Brentford in the 2015 season of the Championship makes it three straight losses before this playoff semi final. Though in the lead, their form against Brentford will be a concern, but with seven wins in 10 matches towards the end of the regular season, they will be confident. In their last 18 matches, Bournemouth failed to score in just three, and they have the quality in attack, going here knowing well that a goal will destabilize Brentford. Two of the sides they were relegated alongside have already made it to the top flight and Bournemouth are keen to also go back at the first time of asking. With an away record of five wins in seven, they will hope this good run persists.

Our Brentford vs Bournemouth Prediction
Brentford haven’t been lucky in the playoffs system and heading here trailing doesn’t augur so well. They hope to overturn this but face a side that is really good in attack and rarely fails to score. While Brentford are also good in attack, shutting out Bournemouth will be a tall order. Bournemouth are expected to set up defensively, but will still possess their attacking threat. Brentford must attack, they have no option. A scoring draw looks very likely here.
