The second match of the opening round in Group F will see Brazil Women take on Panama Women on Monday. The group also includes France and Jamaica, who will play the day before. Brazil is currently ranked eighth in the world and qualified for the World Cup by winning the CONMEBOL qualifying competition. In their 17 matches during qualification, Brazil recorded 14 wins and three draws to finish six points ahead of rivals Argentina. They were one of only two teams, along with the runners-up, that went the entire qualifying campaign unbeaten. Brazil had a much worse showing, though, at the 2023 She Believes Cup, where they finished third behind the United States and Japan, winning only one of their three matches. However, they are the second-highest-ranked side in the group behind France and will be firmly expected to get their campaign off to a winning start. 

Meanwhile, currently 52nd in the world, Panama are one of the lowest-ranked teams competing at the World Cup this year and are expectedly also one of the biggest outsiders. Their route to the main competition was a long and testing one as they finished third in their group at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship behind Costa Rica and Canada and had to head to the intercontinental playoffs. There they faced Papua New Guinea and Paraguay, winning both matches without conceding to secure their spot at the main event. Since then, they had played as many as seven international friendlies and recorded three wins, one draw, and three losses. Notably, they lost their last two matches with a full-strength squad. The first loss ended 7-0 to Spain, and the second finished 5-0 against Japan. They will likely struggle in this one as well.
