USA have already guaranteed that they will improve on their bronze medal from Tokyo 2020 and they are looking to claim their fifth gold medal following triumphs in 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012.
The Stars and Stripes came through the group stages top of Group B with a perfect record of three wins in three. They scored nine goals which was the most of any side in the group stage, while conceding two.
They opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over minnows Zambia, which was followed by a 4-1 victory over Germany and a 2-1 triumph against Australia in the final match of the group stages.
In the knockout rounds, they were unable to get past Japan or Germany in regulation time but did find breakthroughs in extra time in both matches.
The USA have won each of the last seven matches against Brazil dating back to October 2015.
Meanwhile, few would have predicted that Brazil would have made it to the final after they finished as one of the best third-placed teams in the group stage, where they managed only one win in their three matches.
However, Canarinhas just seem to have gotten better as the tournament has progressed as they knocked out host nation France with a solid 1-0 victory in the quarter-final before a much more expansive 4-2 win over Spain in the semis.
With those results, the South Americans have a record of six wins and four losses in their last 10 matches across all competitions. It is worth noting, though, that in 20 previous matches against the USA, Brazil have only won once.

Sophia Smith was the USA’s saving grace in the semi-final, as it was her goal that got the side through in extra time. Smith is now the joint-third highest scorer in the competition with three goals so far.
Trinity Rodman’s strike in extra-time against Japan put her alongside Smith in the race for the Golden Boot and they are joined by Mallory Swanson, who was the key figure in attack during the group stage.
