Brazil - Costa Rica: Form Analysis
While Brazil need no introduction, let’s start off by saying that they are not the same force they were during the 90s and 00s.
In the ongoing 2026 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, they are currently in the sixth and final qualification spot behind the likes of Ecuador, Venezuela and Columbia.
In six WC qualifiers, Selecao have posted a record of two wins, one draw and three losses, scoring eight goals while conceding seven. They are just two points above Paraguay and already eight behind world champions Argentina.
Brazil’s warm-up campaign also produced a mixed bag of results, including wins over England and Mexico, while they drew 3-3 with Spain and 1-1 with the United States in their final preparation match a couple of weeks ago.
However, Brazil have a perfect record against Costa Rica, winning all 10 of their previous matchups.
Meanwhile, Costa Rica earned their invitation to the 2024 tournament by beating Honduras 3-1 in the Copa America qualifying playoffs back in March.
Since then, they have played three matches, losing the first 3-1 to Argentina and drawing goalless with Uruguay.
However, they were able to create some momentum ahead of the competition by securing two convincing wins over St. Kitts and Nevis and Grenada, winning by scorelines of 4-0 and 3-0, respectively.
They have now kept four clean sheets in their last six matches, though they have never managed to shut out the Brazilians and failed to score against them in the last three meetings.
Los Ticos have eaned just two wins from their last seven matches away from home and conceded two or more goals in four of those games.

Brazil are missing a few big-name players for Copa America 2024!
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson sustained an injury to his eye and will miss the competition, while Manchester United enforcer Casemiro was left out of the squad by Dorival Junior.
Further upfield, Selecao will be without the services of Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison, who missed the latter part of the 2023-24 season with a calf injury.
However, the most notable absentee for Brazil is that of their all-time record goal-scorer Neymar, who is still recovering from an ACL injury.
Costa Rica will look to Orlando Galo to continue his solid goal-scoring form in this competition having netted three times in two World Cup qualifiers.
Alvaro Zamora and Gerald Taylor were also on the scoresheet last time out and are ones to watch as the tournament progresses.
The experience in the squad comes from veteran defender Francisco Calvo and former Arsenal attacking midfielder Joel Campbell.
