Runaway Brazilian Serie A leaders Botafogo will take on 12th-placed Internacional at Estadio Nilton Santos on Sunday. The hosts come into this match off the back of a stalemate against Club Guarani in the Copa Sudamericana competition in midweek. That result extended Botafogo’s record to 15 matches unbeaten in all competitions, including nine wins and six draws. The hosts have built up a sizable lead in the Serie A, currently 13 points ahead of Flamengo in second place after 18 matches in the season. In league terms, Botafogo are unbeaten in their last nine matches, winning seven and drawing two. They have only lost two games this season, and both were in away matches, meaning the hosts are unbeaten at home in the league this season. The last time they lost at home was in November last year. Despite their dominance this season, Botafogo have struggled against this opponent in recent seasons, but with the form they are in at present, it comes as no surprise that they are the favourites to win this one.

Only second-bottom Vasco da Gama have a worse attacking record. The visitors drew their last league game 2-2 against Corinthians, which took their recent record to six games without a win, including four draws and two losses. Despite their poor domestic form, though, they did manage a crucial win against River Plate in the Copa Libertadores competition in midweek and will be hoping to carry that momentum into this match.
