Botafogo will be at home against Fortaleza in the Brazilian Serie A on Sunday seeking to get back to winning ways. After nine rounds of play, Botafogo are top of the table while Fortaleza are ninth. Botafogo have been the best-performing side so far this season in the league but recent struggles have seen their lead cut to just two points. Luis Castro’s charges have lost two of their last four league matches and were beaten 1-0 by Athletico Paranaense on matchday eight. This was the second successive loss against Atletico who had eliminated them from the Copa do Barsil on penalties. The Estrela Solitaria drew 0-0 with LDU Quito last time out in the Sudamericana and are now without a win in three matches. Their struggles in attack have precipitated this dip in form as they have managed only one goal in this run. But having defeated Fortaleza in the last two encounters, they will fancy their chances here.

Fortaleza have also hit a snag and are without a win in two matches now and in both, they haven’t scored. They also come to this match after continental duties where they lost 1-0 away to Estudiantes in the Copa Sudamericana. Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s charges were on a four-game unbeaten run before the loss to Estudiantes and had won three of those matches. Last time out in the league, they were held at home to a 0-0 draw by Bahia. The Tricolor de Aco will be keen to get back to this form and will be confident seeing that Botafogo are also struggling. They will however need to be at their best as their away form suggests a tough outing. Fortaleza are without a win in their last five away fixtures and have lost three on the trot.
