Borussia Dortmund vs Zenit St Petersburg Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Steve Ashfield | in Champions League Predictions
Both of these sides have work to do after losing their first games in Champions League group F. Borussia Dortmund lost 3-1 at Lazio, while Zenit slipped to a suprise loss at home to Club Brugge. Dortmund made it to the last sixteen in the 2019/20 Champions League, losing 4-1 on aggregate to eventual finalists PSG. Aside from the loss to Lazio and defeat by European Champions Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup, it's been a decent start to the season for Dortmund. They are currently third in the Bundesliga just a point behind Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Four out of five games have been won, the other an away loss to Augsburg. Home form has seen them win three league games this season by an aggregate score of 10-0. In the Champions League, only one of the last eight has been lost and that includes victories over Atletico Madrid, Inter and PSG, plus a draw with Barcelona.
Zenit St Petersburg won't want to start this group with two straight losses and Lazio up next. They lost their opening group game 2-1 to Club Brugge losing out to a goal scored in the 93rd minute. The Russian side followed that up with a 2-1 loss at home to Rubin Kazan, despite taking a first half lead. They are second in the Russian Premier League, three points behind leaders Spartak Moscow. Only one of their last four games in all competitions has been won and their away form is a major worry. Zenit with no wins in the last four with just two goal scored. Champions League away form is even worse with four losses and a draw in the last five.

Our Borussia Dortmund vs Zenit St Petersburg Prediction
Borussia Dortmund have had a few shaky times in the Champions League in recent years. Losing away at Lazio wasn't a disgrace and they are far better on home soil. The German side have made a good start to the new Bundesliga season, particularly at home. Zenit also lost their first game in this group but being beaten at home by Brugge was a disappointing result. Their form isn't good at present, especially on their travels. Go for Dortmund to win this and be leading at both half and full time.
