Borussia Dortmund will have a chance to strengthen their chase for a top four spot when they host Freiburg next in the Bundesliga. Going into this encounter, Dortmund are placed fourth, three places ahead of Freiburg. Most importantly though, Dortmund are just a point ahead of fifth placed Leipzig and they’ll want to make this game count. They can’t afford another stumble, coming from a 0-0 draw with Heidenheim. With that result, they missed the chance to maintain a three-point gap in the top four race. While Dortmund will feel that was a negative result, they’ll hope to build on a six-game unbeaten league run, which has three draws and as many wins. It hasn’t been smooth at home in the league though, with Dortmund holding two wins in their last five matches there. Their last home game, however, ended in a 3-1 win over Bochum. Niclas Fullkrug has done well in their recent home league matches, scoring five goals in the last four games. Against Bochum, he grabbed a hat trick, two goals coming from the penalty spot. Having beaten Freiburg four straight times ahead of this game, Dortmund will head here very confident. The only concern for Dortmund will be that they haven't managed a clean sheet in the last six meetings with Freiburg.

Freiburg, a team with the most porous defence in the top seven, faces one of the most potent attacks in the league. This seems like an uphill task for them on paper. They will however seek positivity in the fact that they have scored in each of the last six meetings with Dortmund. While they have a negative goal difference, their hopes for Europe remain alive. Freiburg, at 28 points, are just three below the top six. It won’t make things easier though, coming from two straight league defeats. In their last outing, Freiburg conceded early and had Maerlin Rohl sent off inside the opening 20 minutes against Stuttgart. By the first 10 minutes of that game, Freiburg were down 2-0. Lukas Kubler did pull one back before half time but they would concede again in the second half to lose 3-1. That was their second straight league defeat with that margin and the third in five that they conceded three goals. Freiburg have however failed to score in just one of their last five league matches, even though they kept only one clean sheet in that run. In nine away league matches, they have six losses.
