Boca Juniors vs Fluminense Prediction & Betting Tips - Copa Libertadores
by Joseph King | in Copa Libertadores Predictions
The 2023 Copa Libertadores final has arrived with six-time winners Boca Juniors taking on Brazilian side Fluminense. Boca Juniors are seeking a record-tying seventh title in this competition and their first since 2007. Fluminense, meanwhile, are out to win their first ever Copa Libertadores crown in their second ever final. They made it to this stage back in 2008 but finished as runners-up to LDU Quito. Will Boca become the 26th Argentinian side to win the famous trophy or will Fluminense register Brazil’s 23rd?

Boca Juniors - Fluminense: Form Analysis
Boca come into this fixture off the back of a 0-0 draw with Estudiantes on Saturday. It’s been a season to forget for the Xeneizes domestically speaking as they languish down in 10th-place in Group of the Primera Division second phase. Boca advanced to this stage of the competition by overcoming previous tournament favorite Palmeiras on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate score. They also eliminated Racing Club and Uruguayan side Nacional in the knockout rounds. Boca will enter this cup final on a two-match winless run. Since their semi-final clash with Palmeiras, the Argentines have had an indifferent stretch of results with two wins, two defeats and one draw.
Fluminense pulled off a thrilling comeback in the second leg of their semi-final fixture against co Brazilian side Internacional. The Tricolor scored twice in the final 10 minutes of play to secure a 4-3 aggregate victory and advance to the final. Fluminense come into this final on a poor run of form after losing their last two consecutive games as well as three of their last four. Since the semi-final win over Internacional, Fluminense have played in six Brazil Serie A matches and won only once, drawing once and losing four. However, the last time that Manager Fernando Diniz opted to field the first-choice 11, the team won 5-3 against Goias.

Boca Juniors & Fluminense Squad Analysis
Unsurprisingly, Boca Juniors manager Jorge Almiron opted to rest the majority of his first-choice 11 in the team’s goalless draw to Estudiantes. We should see players such as Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Fernandez, Pol Fernandez, Jorge Fidal, Sergio Romero and others return to the starting lineup. Expect a similar side to the one that took to the field against Palmeiras back in the beginning of October. Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo will miss the final after picking up a red card against Palmeiras in the semis. They’ll also be without promising young winger Exequiel Zeballos after the 21-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament tear in October.
Fluminense striker German Cano will demand the full attention of the Boca Juniors backline. The 35-year-old Argentine is the leading scorer in this competition with 12 goals to his name. Fernando Diniz will be without two players for the trip to the Maracana. Left back Jorge has been out since February with a ligament tear and center back Nino has missed the last five matches with ligament inflammation. Diniz has understandably opted to rest the majority of his regular starters for the last two games as they turn their full focus to the Copa Libertadores final.
