Seventy years ago, Blackpool were the winners of the FA Cup. The League One side now host Forest Green Rovers (who are a division below them) for a place in the third round of the 2023-24 FA Cup. The Tangerines are currently eigth in League One, three points behind the final promotion play-off position but from two games more. They are bidding to reach the FA Cup third round (the stage when Premier League and Championship sides enter the tournament) for the sixth successive season. Last term saw them get to the fourth round, losing away at then Premier League club, Southampton. The first round of this year's competition saw them get a 2-0 win at non-league Bromley. Current form had produced three wins in a row (including beating League One leaders Portsmouth 4-0 away) before a home loss to Northampton Town.

Forest Green Rovers are battling to stay in League Two. They are currently 23rd in the table and that's one of the places that relegates a side to the National League. They are three points from safety but do have a game in hand. Rangers got to the third round last season but that was the first time they'd got that far since 2009-10 when still a non-league club. The Green have gone three games without a win since beating Scarborough Athletic at home in the FA Cup first round. Their most recent game saw Rovers lose 3-0 at home to Bradford City.
