Blackburn Rovers will be at home against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday in Week One of the 2023/24 English Championship season. Rovers went unbeaten last season against West Brom and earned four points out of a possible six. For the last two seasons, Blackburn have missed out on the promotion playoffs. Both seasons they have finished with 69 points. Last season, goal difference kept them out of the top six while the season before that they were six points behind. Rovers fell 3-2 at Ewood Park to Spanish La Liga side Girona last Saturday. The defeat ended a five-match unbeaten run that began at the tail end of last season. In this period, they won three times with one of those victories being a 4-3 success over Millwall on the final day of last season. Blackburn are undefeated in the last three matches against West Brom winning once.

West Brom have avoided defeat twice in their last three visits to Ewood Park. Their last win against their soon-to-be hosts came in this fixture back in 2021. This should have them confident of coming away with a positive result here. Carlos Corberan’s charges were also unfortunate not to seal a promotion playoff slot last season. They finished ninth, three points adrift of the top six, and will be eager to build on this. The Baggies arrive for this weekend’s fixture having struggled in pre-season. They played six friendly matches and only managed to win one. This was a 3-1 success over Shrewsbury to begin their preparations for this season. They are now without a win in their last five outings with three of those matches ending in defeat. In their final match of pre-season, West Brom were on the receiving end of a seven-goal thriller with Bolton Wanderers.
