The FA Cup has become very important for Newcastle United. They are only ninth in the Premier League and travel to struggling Blackburn Rovers who are 16th in the Championship. United are seven points adrift of sixth place and 15 behind the top four. It may well be that the Magpies need to win the FA Cup to qualify for Europe next season. Not doing so would be a big step back for the ambitious club. Saturday saw them lose 4-1 at Arsenal and that ended a run of five games without defeat. They continue to have defensive problems with 12 goals conceded in their last four games while scoring ten themselves. In the FA Cup this season they have had wins at Sunderland and Fulham, both to nil. The last time they won this competition was in 1955.

Blackburn Rovers are six places above the Championship relegation zone but just four points clear of the bottom three. They have gone four games without a win but drawn the last three. Their most recent match saw them have to come from behind to get a 1-1 home draw with Norwich City. They have been struggling for a fair while now and a current form guide for the last 15 league games has them one from bottom. Home form has seen them lose one of their last seven but two have been against lower league sides in the FA Cup and relegation candidates in the Championship. We tip Newcastle to win this and go into the quarter finals.
