Both of these clubs have had plenty of seasons in the top tier of English football. Blackburn are even former Premier League champions but begin this match bottom of the Championship. They have played two league games and lost them both. Their season started with a home game against newly promoted Charlton Athletic. Rovers went 1-0 down just before half time but equalized in the second half thanks to an own goal. They couldn't improve their position though and ended up losing the game 2-1. Next up, they traveled to Fulham and lost 2-0 conceding a goal in each half. They did at least avoid being knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek but only just. They hosted League Two Oldham Athletic and were losing 2-1 going into the 92nd minute. Then they equalized and got the winner two minutes later but it was another worrying performance. Five of their last nine home league games have ended in defeat.
Middlesbrough were in the promotion play-off positions for most of last season. They had a bad run that saw them drop down the table and eventually missed out on the chance to return to the Premier League. They swiftly replaced the heavily criticized Tony Pulis with their former defender Jonathan Woodgate. They haven't made the best of starts under their new boss. Boro were renowned for their boring play under Pulis and those days seem to have gone after a 3-3 draw at last season's League One Champions Luton Town. They went 1-0 up but soon found themselves 2-1 down. By the 68th minute Boro were 3-2 up but conceded an equalizer five minutes from time. Worse was to come in their first home league game as they lost 1-0 to Brentford. More bad news followed as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup. They could only draw 2-2 aat home to League Two Crewe and then lost a penalty shoot-out. Boro were 2-0 down at half time and needed a 91stBor minute goal just to get to the penalty shoot-out. This is a difficult game to predict with both sides struggling. Boro have only lost one of their last four away league games, go for them to win or draw this match.
