Blackburn Rovers will hope to rise from their 12th defeat of the season when they play host to Cardiff City in the two sides’ Sunday clash. Smarting from a defeat to Middlesbrough, Blackburn are third in the Championship standings with 39 points, while Cardiff City are 20th with 28 points. No team outside the relegation zone has lost more games than Blackburn Rovers, yet surprisingly, they are in the promotion playoff places. This is largely down to the fact also that only the two teams above Blackburn Rovers have won more games than them. Blackburn haven't drawn a game in the Championship this season, winning 13 and losing 12 of the 25 played. They are coming from a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, a game they finished with 10 men after John Buckley was sent off early in the second half and it was the second straight league game in which they scored first but lost. In their last five league matches they have four losses, and in those losses, they’ve let in two or more goals, thus four of their last five league matches have produced over 2.5 goals. They come into this game with two straight defeats at home in the league.
Cardiff City are coming from yet another draw; they shared spoils in a 0-0 outcome with Coventry City, a second straight such result in the league, having also drawn with QPR on Boxing Day. That result marked a fourth straight draw for Cardiff City and they have no win in their last six league matches. Cardiff City have failed to score in three of their last five matches in the league and this might work against them, facing a side that hasn’t scored in just two of their last 10 league games. However, with Blackburn also struggling to keep clean sheets, Cardiff City might view that as a positive. The visitors come into this game unbeaten in their last three matches, winning one and drawing two, while keeping two clean sheets. Cardiff beat Blackburn 1-0 in their earlier meeting this season, but that was their first win in this fixture in eight meetings. Half of those eight meetings have however ended in draws.
