The Championship comes to a close this weekend with matchday 46 as 22nd-place Birmingham hosts fifth-placed Norwich City. Both teams have something to play for which should make for an exciting match on Saturday. Birmingham currently occupy the final relegation spot although they could move out of the drop zone with a victory and other results going their way. As things currently stand, Birmingham’s points total of 47 sees them sitting one point behind 21st Plymouth and three points behind both Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn who are 20th and 19th-placed, respectively. Birmingham have to go for the win if they are to avoid the drop down to the third division of English football for the first time in nearly 30 years. The upshot is that the hosts come into this fixture on a three-match unbeaten run. They drew 1-1 away from home against Huddersfield last weekend which was the Blues’ second stalemate in a row.

Norwich City come into the last match of the Championship season with the reassurance that they have a spot in the promotion playoffs barring a complete catastrophe. They hold a three-point lead over seventh-place Hull City along with a goal differential advantage of +16 to +9. The Canaries are on an excellent run of form which should benefit them in the playoff. They’ve lost only once in their last nine league fixtures, winning five and drawing the remaining three. The visitors are coming off back-to-back draws following a 2-2 finish against Swansea at home last weekend. Norwich City have really struggled to get results on the road this campaign. David Wagner’s side are seeing an average return of just 1.09 points per away trip compared to their fantastic home return of 2.13 points per game. However, Norwich come into this contest with two wins, a draw and a defeat in their last four away matches.
