With relegation looming large, Birmingham need to improve their results as they come up against Cardiff, who have nothing to gain or lose. Birmingham lost 2-1 to Leicester over the weekend, dropping into the bottom three. They are now a point behind safety, but with two points separating them from the three teams directly above, this isn’t time yet to panic. The worry, though, is that the result wasn’t isolated, and the Blues have now lost five of their last six league games. Going a little further back, they have seven defeats and a draw from their last nine league games. This poor sequence has even hampered their form at home, as Birmingham have lost three of their last four home league games.

Cardiff are one of those sides that have nothing much to gain or lose in the remaining fixtures of the season. They were beaten 3-1 by Hull, making it their third defeat in four matches, highlighting the lack of push for results. Yet, they can be a dangerous side, as the Bluebirds have won five of their last eight league games. They will have to bank on that run of form to better the 1-0 defeat they endured in the reverse fixture. It will be interesting to see how Cardiff will utilize the away conditions, as they haven’t really clicked on road trips. Yet, two wins across their last three away league games suggest they can be a dangerous side.
