Real Betis came close to qualifying for the Europa League last season. They may have finished tenth in La Liga but that was only three points adrift of the final qualifying position. Betis ended the season with a couple of wins. One was expected as they defeated relegated Huesca, the other was an excellent win away at Real Madrid. Time ran out for them and no Europa League footbal this season. Betis won 14 league games last season but lost 16 matches. Ten of those defeats came on their travels so that's an area to improve this season. Home form has seen them win two of their last five league games. They lost two games but they were against Barcelona and Valencia so that can be excused. 

Real Valladolid nearly got themselves relegated last season, their first in La Liga since 2014. They ended in 16th place, four points above the bottom three. They had a strong finish to the season with three wins in their last five league games and that kept them afloat. Two of those wins came against clubs that finished below them in the table. Last season saw them earn 21 away points, one more than they got at home. Their last ten away league games produced eight points. In mid-season though, they had a run of just two points from six away matches. Real Betis can be backed to open the season with a home win.
